The story of Okozi

Founder led safaris, reviving the art of mobile

Okozi was built by two people with different backgrounds, different skills, and a shared belief that mobile safari, done properly, is one of the best ways to experience Tanzania.

Benji spent his childhood on safari, from evening game drives around Arusha National Park in pyjamas to watching his parents build one of East Africa's most respected mobile safari operations. Ask any guest he's guided, and they'll tell you they left with no questions unanswered; any bird call, any animal behaviour, any car making an odd noise in the bush. He makes everyone in the vehicle feel completely at ease from the moment they arrive to the moment they leave.

He's integral to every part of Okozi, from guiding and curating trips to designing the camp furniture, fixing the vehicles, and thinking carefully about every detail of the experience. He cares about every part of it being done properly.

Evie first came to Tanzania in 2018 and never left. She grew up in the Yorkshire Dales and comes from a background in communications and research, but what kept her in Tanzania was its beauty and its unpredictability. Her focus is the camp experience: the food, the design, the feel of a space, and she thinks about it carefully because she knows from her own experience how much it matters to feel at home somewhere wild.

Together, they started Okozi because they wanted to revive mobile safaris, fusing tradition with the contemporary. Living in Arusha, they saw first-hand how Tanzania's most iconic landscapes were changing under the weight of tourism, and they wanted to offer something different: one group at a time, camps that move with the wildlife, and an experience that connects guests to the country rather than just passing through it.
